Lil Durk’s lawyers are offering future music income as part of a renewed request for the rapper’s release on bond. The proposal reportedly includes royalties, publishing income, touring earnings, merchandise, name-and-image rights, cash, and property pledged by supporters.
What the defense is proposing
According to AllHipHop, Sony Music Entertainment said it was prepared to guarantee up to $1 million toward an appearance bond and allow future earnings to be used as collateral. Letters from JAY-Z, J. Cole, Michael Rubin, and others were also included in support of the request.
A jury acquitted Durk on five counts in the first trial in September. He remains in custody because separate charges are still pending, and his lawyers are asking the judge to reconsider detention. The new proposal is a request; it does not mean the judge has granted release.
The next step is the court’s decision
The case now turns on whether the court views the proposed financial guarantees and release conditions as enough to address its concerns. The separate pending charges remain unresolved.
Do you think tying future royalties to a bond package changes how courts weigh release requests for artists?
